Easy Solar Streetlight Installation in Devon UK – A Case Study

Solar streetlight Installation UK

Olympia Max Solar Street light at Woolacombe Sands Holiday Park Roadway

Woolacombe Sands Holiday Park is in North Devon, a 15-20 minute walk to Woolacombe Beach renowned for its natural beauty. The accommodation type ranges from high-end spacious chalets and caravans with beach views, to plots for camping or owned caravans. The dedicated off-road footpath to the beach leads straight to the village through beautiful National Trust countryside and fantastic surroundings.

The balance of maintaining a caravan site in this location within the last few years has meant implementing cost saving and environmentally friendly practices and products. When it comes to outdoor lighting for a caravan park, it can be very costly and time consuming to install mains-powered lighting to certain areas of the site. Installers have to be hired, ground dug-up, and armoured cable has to be run. In many rural locations this just isn’t an option.

Lumena’s ‘VIAMAX’ Solar streetlight designs are designed to illuminate in the UK all year round, with extended illumination times. They provide a renewable, sustainable alternative to mains powered lights with the fantastic benefits of solar lighting. These include easy, cost-effective installation, zero cabling and no running costs.

The site team opted for the Olympia Max solar streetlight with 3m galvanised column

Having considered the specs. and install location, they selected this sizeable solar lamppost ‘[to illuminate the] pathway to [the] woodland walk and provide reliable access lighting for staff accommodation’. Around 10m of illumination was required, which is provided by this professional solar light mounted at a height of 3m. Having discussed requirements with Woolacombe sands, they advised that; ‘the road and lane have no mains electric, so it’d be very expensive to install mains’. Following the successful installation of the solar lights, Jon Richards, Director of Woolacombe Sand Holiday Park, is pleased to report he is ‘very happy [with the output, with a] nice bright light’

A big reason for the park committing to good quality solar lighting, was to save much time, money and upheaval. Installing solar lights rather than mains 240v did just that. According to the installer, fitting the solar lamppost light was ‘very simple for two people, one for the base and another to help lift the light head into position’. On average, Woolacombe experienced around 8 hours of illumination per night in February / March during typical winter weather conditions. In prime charging conditions, Woolacombe can expect up to 12 hours illumination per night with up to 60 hours produced from full battery. The Olympia Max solar streetlight has exceeded their expectations with top ratings for performance, installation, functionality and light output.

During 2022, Lumena has witnessed record sales for solar lighting, including solar bollards, solar wall lights and solar streetlight designs. See the whole solar range HERE
